Yay! I'm finally back in LA but since I'm only in LA for a couple of days out of a week (like the past 6 weeks,) I've been working like crazy and truth be told, all I want to do it just sleep. I am very sleep deprived and even though I'm wearing my sunglasses I think it shows how tired I look.
Tomorrow, I'll be flying to one of the cities I've always wanted to go to... Florence, Italy! I'm so stoked to be going to Florence but can't really wrap my head around what it's going to be like. Any great suggestions? What should I look at? I heard I won't need restaurant recommendations as they are all delicious. Any activities that I must do and sites that I must visit? Also, is it rude if I don't speak any Italian besides grazie and ciao? (totally doing the 21 questions)

i can't speak anyyy italian but i went there last summer and i was fine! i can't remember off the top of my head, but there's this place that you must hike to, to see the entireeeee city. i think its called Piazza Michelangelo? One of the most gorgeous views you will every see, but it takes climbing a millionnn stairs to get there. definitely not for heels, and bring water! have fun, i love italy!!

I think it would be good for you to learn some italian since the locals dont really speak english. :S even some very basic things like numbers and some local landmarks in italian (incase you get lost) might be helpful. And maybe some food related words too :)

I lived in Florence for a whole year and I could only say grazie and ciao! haha. you'll be fine. Most of them speak English since there are so many tourists around. The Doumo is a must see as Im sure you won't miss it even if you tried. Ponto Vecchio is a must go and yes Piazzale Michelangelo requires a long walk but has a breathe taking view.
Also be sure to go to the rooftop cafe in Rinascente department store near Piazza della Republica: another beautiful view. Most of the bars have free self serve food once you purchase a drink at certain times II think 8 to 10 ish) and the food's usually good. (we and a lot of international students used to go to a bar name MOYO)
Be sure to check out the Medici Villas as well! Hope that helped! and have fun :)

Florence is a BEAUTIFUL city! You should check out this restaurant called Al Acqua 2! As bizarre as this may sound, they have blueberry steak there and it is DELICIOUS! You should check out the street market they have close to the train station too! Lots of cool stuff and nice leather items if you're looking for any! Have fun! Florence is one of my favorite cities and the people there are extremely nice :)

Florence is one of my favorite cities. You literally cannot step into an establishment that serves bad food, believe me I've tried and it seems impossible that with such high restaurant density there aren't a few clunkers and tourist traps. Viva Italia! Le volpi and l'uva is definitely a must visit restaurant there, unusual in that it only serves crostinis. What you think is but a humble appetizer, they make divine with honey, asiago, and speck (the sugar cutting through the savory fat). Al' antica fornaio is a hometown favorite among locals, they serve authentic porchetta sandwiches. Il Gelato di Filo on via San Miniato is by far the best (and cheapest) gelato shop, but they are literally EVERYWHERE so don't worry if you can't find it. Also, hanging out on the green patch of the bank of the river Arno next to the Piazza Michelangelo (the church of San Miniato at the top is the most beautiful holy space I have ever stepped into, and I'm Buddhist) is also a treat--I have made Italian friends there. Finally, go to the Palazzo Vecchio. The best Medici residence by far, the ceiling frescos will take your breath away. If you have a chance, tour Siena and the Tuscan wine country--it's like central Italy couldn't get any prettier, but it does.

You will LOVE florence!! I lived there last summer and just quit my full time job so I can go back there! Its an amazing city. You have to go to Piazza Michaelangelo as others have said. Do it at sunset and grab a bottle of wine to enjoy up there. Its simply the best. If you want the best gelato in the city, go across the ponte vecchio and to the left to a little shop called Cantina Del Gelato. All Italians get gelato there... that should tell you something! ;) Have an amazing time there!! Cant wait to see your posts about it!! Love following your blog.
